Baseball great Sparky Anderson once said, “Success isn’t something that happens. Success is learned, success is practiced, and then it is shared.” And he should know—he managed the Cincinnati Reds to back-to-back championships in 1975 and 1976, and then repeated the feat with the Detroit Tigers in 1984. Todd Jones of Midwest Sports Training shares Sparky’s approach to success, along with a passion for the game. As he tells it, he learned to walk on the sidelines of a baseball field, where his dad was a coach. His athletic career shaped his childhood and led him to college-level play at Labette College in Kansas. Today, he’s the owner and head coach of Midwest Sports Training in West Chicago, a brand-new facility dedicated to private lessons, coaching, and cage rentals for baseball and softball players of all levels.

With experience as a baseball and football coach, Todd was clear on his vision for opening a premier practice facility. What he needed help with was developing a brand, building a website, and creating buzz around the business’s launch—especially critical given that he was intent on opening during the pandemic.

The JRS Mar/Com team was ready to help—and to earn MVP status in digital marketing and branding for Todd’s new venture.

How did we do it?

Todd needed our help to tell the right story and bring his business to life. We, in turn, needed to know more about his market and his plans for the facility and its training programs. We also needed insight to bring his brand to life with a logo and visuals for the website. Our team interviewed Todd and reviewed leading national training facilities for positioning, messaging, and other key marketing nuances.

We created a site map to guide content development and site functionality. At the same time, we developed a logo and brand look and feel that would bring Todd’s vision to life. We wove Todd’s lifelong passion for baseball into the company’s story. With the facility under construction and considerations about privacy, the team used stock photos as a resource for site images—but we carefully selected them for consistency and realism. Once the facility opened, we updated with photography from the JRS Mar/Com team.

Midwest Sports Training opened for business in late 2021, offering private lessons, camps, speed and agility training, cage and space rentals, and an opportunity to practice with a cutting-edge tool called WIN Reality.
