Elim graduated from Wheaton College in May 2018 with a major in International Relations, a certificate in Human Needs and Global Resources and a minor in Art + Design. During her time in undergrad Elim was able to work as an events manager, graphic designer, social media/ marketing strategist, PR manager and photographer both as a board member of Wheaton’s event organizing committee (College Union) and for freelanced work off campus. Her college poster designs were so popular that to this day you can still find some of them hung up in student’s dorms and apartments as works of art!
Because of her Hebrew first name, people usually guess Elim’s background has a little bit of a story to it. Elim, is in fact, originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and has lived in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Peru and the USA since she left her home country. Elim is trilingual and takes every opportunity to expand her linguistic capabilities. Her life has taught her the importance of speaking the language of her community, so she never lets an opportunity slip away. Her mosaic of cultural experiences is what ignited her passion for humanitarian work. She has spent several years working towards making the world a more equitable place through interpreting for and training refugees for job placement, serving at a non-profit human rights organization in Peru, doing research on violence against women and giving back to her local community, here, in the Chicago area.
Elim is passionate about fusing tech, innovation, and digital communication with humanitarian efforts to serve the greater good, even if the resources are limited. Digital marketing is an underused tool for the Global South and Elim hopes to reintegrate the skills she learns from JRS Mar/Com to expand the reach of the life changing work people are doing within their own communities across the globe.
For the fall, Elim will be incorporating digital marketing strategies as well as learning about processes and procedures to engage client success. Elim is looking forward to learning more about analytics and SEO during her time with JRS Mar/Com.
