According to a recent statement by the Digital Media website Mashable.com, Web Design is Dead. YES! I couldn’t agree more. While I don’t have 43 million monthly visitors, I have long been an advocate of simple design and outstanding content spread far and wide. What is your website trying to say? How is the message amplified through artistry and fancy design? (Hint: It’s Not!)

I am not advocating against well thought out user experience. One that answers the client’s question, “why am I here?” Oftentimes, that is not an answer that needs custom design. When working with small businesses throughout Arlington Heights, IL, owners are aware that a website is a vital part of their continued existence, they just don’t know what to do next.

A professional looking website design doesn’t have to be custom developed.

I’ve always found the challenge of working with Designers, Developers, Content Generators, Artists and clients one that could use simplification. With the tools available through multiple web software companies (Wix, Weebly, WordPress, etc…), you can now create functional, eye-catching, and content rich websites. Plug-ins exist for almost any functionality challenge, and content can be easily optimized to assist in organic and local search rank. Frequently updated and relevant content is what currently makes a good website stand out from the competition.

Small and Midsize (#SMB) Business Marketing is a challenge due to the investment necessary, both time and resources. Entrepreneuers often end up buried or lost on the path. A beginning content strategy can satisfy creation and distribution, as well as posting to social media at pre-determined frequencies. Unique, custom developed content is hosted on site and shared through as many channels as possible including social media, email, newsletters, pr wires, etc…

The more people who see your content, the more people who become aware of your product or service. This means more traffic to your website. Tracking where your traffic comes from is helpful in determining future marketing efforts and shaping editorial content.

Think of your website like a TV station and you as a producer. Now you have authority for programming and content. Select wisely and spread the message about what makes your business unique.
